If you're sick and tired of having a glamorous, gorgeous, human hair extensions slowing morph into something resembling a bird’s nest. Here are some words of advice to help you select a weave and stay tangle free.
1 Start by selecting Remy Human hair extensions
Remy hair has the cuticle of the hair intact; this is what ensures it’s tangle free. You may find that some supplier’s state that their hair is cuticle intact, as opposed to remy (remi) hair, it means the same thing.
2 Know your Remy!
There are two basic types of remy hair - Virgin Remy hair and Remy hair.
Virgin Remy hair as the name implies has not been chemically processed and is considered the best type of hair extension. As you can imagine the variety of colour, waviness and straightness is restricted to what nature provides naturally. On the other hand Remy hair can be coloured or permed. This processing means you have more choice, as the hair comes in a range of colours and may be permed . The great thing about this is that it can be made to closely resemble the look of relaxed hair, alternatively the hair can be given a specific curl or wave pattern.
3 The importance of Alignment
To further ensure your weave does not tangle, check that the individual hairs have been aligned with the root of the hair sewn in to the in weft (stitching) of the weave. This mimics how hair would fall naturally from your scalp – root to tip, so inherently there is less tangling. In cheaper hair weaves the roots and tips of the hair are mixed, this causes tangling.
4 Know the source
If you want the best quality human hair you won’t go far wrong if you select Indian human hair. Virgin Indian hair naturally comes in a range of colours that compliment black women, because of this it can easily be used to create beautiful, strong, tangle free weaves. There are other sources of weave such a Brazilian and European hair. For those who still want their remy but would prefer to be a little blonder! When selecting these the same principles apply in that the hair needs to be classed as Virgin remy , Remy or cuticle intact if you want it to be tangle free. However do bear in mind, if you do want an off the chart colour some supplier will dye the hair for you.
Once you have selected your beautiful human hair extensions hair, make sure that the stylist installing your weave is competent and really knows what they are doing. Be mindful that a sew-in weave is a safe way to install a weave and will encourage your hair to grow. Ensure the cornrow base that the weave is attached to is not too tight. Tight cornrows equal hair loss! Avoid using glues to apply your weave as hair loss can occur when the weave is removed. Follow the advice given by the supplier on how to maintain your weave. In particular work out a night time routine that prevents unnecessary tangles. Braid it, cover you hair with a silky scarf and/or sleep on a silk pillowcase. Whilst you’re rocking your new style take care of your hair underneath. Cleanse and oil your scalp regularly to promote healthy hair growth.
