Black hair breakage is the number 1 # problem for most black women myself included. Below I am sharing a method I have used sucessfully to tackle this problem. So far I have gone from just 1" inch of hair at my nape to 3" whilst using the " Braid and Protect method " for approx 3 months including the rest time. The details of the regime I followed are below with photo's of my progress.
The results from doing the Braid & Protect method once! Feel free to try this let me know how you get on.
Scalp massage - One of the best ways to promote hair growth 10mins once a week!
Braid and Protect method
Applied braids to nape and wore for 2 months. Washed braids weekly and sprayed with leave-in conditioner after washing. Massaged whole scalp the day after washing using the castor oil mix. Concentrated on massaging the nape area. Massaged for 5 - 10 mins with the occassional longer session. During the week moisturised the braids daily, with braid spray. Avoided spraying scalp because this makes the braids difficult to remove. After 2 months removed braids and used a deep Protien conditioner. For the following 2 weeks rested my hair from braids and used a deep moisturising conditioner. Whilst my hair was out of braids I continued to protect my nape by using silky/chiffon scarves, wearing head bands and swapping hats with hard rims for knitted hats.
Oils to Promote hair growth in Relaxed or Afro hair
I must say at this point that I have recently moved on to using Ayurvedic oils on my hair and have found them to be excellent. The photograph in the side bar of my shiny silky hair was taken after using ayurvedic products. There are also other fantastic oils that can be used to promote hair growth.
Hair type : Natural -Just grown out relaxer.

Maintenance during the week
Morning hair regimen
Add a little hair putty in the morning to keep hairline smooth. If I need to comb my hair I only ever finger comb and use the palm of my hands to smooth down.
Night time regimen
At night I moisturise and seal as required and wrap in silky scarf. The scarf is important to me as it make my hair look really smooth in the morning no need to use a comb. I also sleep on silky pillow case for extra hair insurance! It's good for my hair and skin.
My plan is to shampoo and use a protein conditioner on a monthly basis. This is to ensure my hair doesn't become too soft or over conditioned due to the co washing. I’m fully aware that too much co washing and no hair strengthening can lead to breakage.
I don't trim my ends, dusting is what I do every 12 wks. This is when you cut just 1/4 inch from your hair. For a fuller explanation of dusting visit Dusting.
